Our Know-How
THE EYE AND THE HAND
THE TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES OF THE LEATHERWORKER
Our belts are made in France in human-sized workshops located in the French Limousin and Normandy regions. Our artisans are highly passionate and skilled, ensuring that each piece adheres to both tradition and high standards. Below are some examples of the often intricate steps involved in the making of a belt.
SELECTION OF LEATHERS
We only select the finest quality leathers (category 1) for each type of skin. Our leathers have a story: leather is a natural material, and some may have wrinkles or slight variations in grain and pigmentation.
HAND CUTTING
All of our leathers are hand-cut during the preparation phase.
BELT SHAPING
The majority of our women's designs are elegantly sculpted with a curve for enhanced comfort.
MACHINE STITCHING
We use saddle stitching, (double-faced biased stitching). Even with a machine, this requires experience and craftmanship to create a straight stitching line, equidistant from the edge.
FINISHES
Polishing and edge dyeing: the edges of the belt are lightly polished to create a slightly rounded finish, ensuring the smoothest edge possible. A sophisticated finishing touch, edge dyeing is a delicate manual process: once the first layer is applied, it must dry, be polished, and then up to four layers are applied to ensure durability and a perfect finish.
BURNISHING
Final touch of sophistication, this line highlights the stitching all along its length. It requires experience to trace it perfectly parallel to the edges.
